Crab shells are an effective source of N, P, Ca and Mg, and work as a pH buffer in soil. Crab shells also contain chitin which supports plants’ immune system, promotes beneficial microbes and helps inhibit the establishment of some soil-borne pathogens.

We provide two different grades of crab shells - fine and coarse. Use the fine for the optimal nutrient release incorporated in soil, and the coarse for extra sharpness for slug protection used as a topdressing.

Highlighted benefits:

  1. Slow release of macro- and micronutrients to sustain healthy crops over the season

  2. Protects against pest nematodes and fungal diseases and triggers plants’ natural defence system

  3. Improves soil texture, water holding capacity, aeration and helps build organic matter

Usage

Suitable for indoor/outdoor plants, flowers, vegetables and seedlings.

Incorporate in soil, potting mixes or apply with transplants.

For slug protection, apply as a top dressing.

Can also be used in compost as a bio-activator.

Compatibility

Compatible with most commonly used agricultural inputs and plant protection products. If in doubt, test compatibility on a small area.

Application

Apply 1kg/10m2 by lightly incorporating within the rooting area or apply a small handful when transplanting

Time of application

4-6 weeks before planting for a slow release throughout the season

Storage

Store in cool and dry conditions away from direct sunlight. Once opened ensure that the packet is re-sealed after use to ensure contents remain dry.
